Mitigating the Impact of COVID-19 as an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) With Positive Childhood Experiences
For some children Covid-19 will become an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE). For others it may be an escalator to additional stressors in the home such as poverty, food insecurity, mental health, substance use or abuse, child abuse and domestic violence among others. Mitigating these stressors with concrete support is needed more than ever. This training will identify risk factors as well as creating protective factors and stress reducers for children and families.
1. Recognize the components of a potentially traumatic event
2. Identify co-occurring events and circumstances that may increase stress and trauma
3. Learn ways to promote positive childhood experiences
4. Provide strategies for increased positive connection for youth and adults
