The first contact in an investigation can have a significant impact on the case as a whole. Law enforcement and child protection workers, who are often the first responders, need to be armed with the knowledge to competently and effectively begin the case. Prosecutors need to work in cooperation with their MDT partners in order to communicate the elements of charges and the evidence needed. This presentation will use real case and investigation examples to create a foundation for building great cases from start to finish.
1. Provide tips and suggestions for ensuring crime scene and witness preservation for those who make first contact with families and witnesses in vulnerable victim cases.
2. Review real case examples and demonstrations to highlight the importance of understanding elements of proof and evidentiary exceptions in child abuse cases.
3. Discuss the importance of collaboration amongst the MDT to ensure best practices.
