Building Empathy: The Power of Connected Children in a Disconnected Age

Course Description

Empathy is a powerful force that can be used to motivate and change lives for good. This presentation covers the power of empathy and how emotional connection is still a strong antidote for bullying behavior and toxic choices. Parents and caring adults are attempting to help the young people in their life navigate the world around them when the digital learning curve can be quite steep and overwhelming. The good news is that the lessons that have worked for generations to help raise empathetic children, still hold true today. The voices and hearts of engaged adults still play an integral role in building healthy families and healthy communities.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand how the diffusion of responsibility impacts an empathic response.

2. Self-identify example that can impact empathy positively or negatively.

3. List concrete ways to set an empathetic example.
