Randy McAlister has been working in the emergency services since 1990 as an EMT, Nationally Registered paramedic, and a police officer. He has been with the Cottage Grove Police Department since 1998 and is currently Deputy Director of Public Safety / Police Captain. He also served for 14 years on the Washington County SWAT team and retired from the team in 2013 as a Team Commander. Randy is the owner of McAlister Threat Management providing training in targeted violence risk assessment and management as well as consulting services to private organizations and corporations in high-risk cases.
Randy holds an M.A. from Concordia University (St. Paul, MN) in Criminal Justice Leadership and a B.A. in Organizational Studies from Bethel University (St. Paul, MN). He has attended Gavin de Becker and Associates’ Advanced Threat Assessment and Management Academy in Lake Arrowhead, California and is also a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP)–specializing in the assessment and management of targeted violence. Randy has received advanced training in workplace violence prevention, stalking, domestic homicide prevention, school violence and terrorism. He has also completed the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s Domestic Violence Instructor course and has been a national instructor for the National Center for Victims of Crime’s Stalking Resource Center out of Washington, D.C. In 2015 Randy became one of the first twenty-four Certified Threat Manager’s™ in the country through ATAP.
